Suzanne Stulgis

Apr 11, 1945 — Oct 3, 2026

Suzanne (McDonald) Stulgis, 81, of Bedford, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 11, 1945 in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Mary (Quinn) McDonald. She was one of five sisters, with whom over the years she enjoyed lunching with.

Sue was raised in Lawrence, MA, and was a Graduate of Lawrence High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a BA degree in teaching. Her teaching career began in Indiana. However she returned to her "roots" and spent the majority of her career teaching senior English classes at Lawrence High School. Later in her career, she received an MA degree in Curriculum Development from Lesley University, an accomplishment she was particularly proud of. Post retirement, she served as an adjunct professor at Manchester Community College.

She remembered with particular fondness the chapter in her life that she and her family lived in Quito, Ecuador. She treasured the opportunity to experience different cultures and places, and had a deep appreciation for travel. Her travels took her throughout Europe, as well as on special trips to China, Egypt and the Greek islands. Many of these trips Sue and Dick went with her sister Peg and brother-in-law Ken Ralph. One particular trip involved an entire family adventure to Italy including residing in a villa in Tuscany.

After retirement, she cherished spending winters in Florida. She developed a wide circle of new friends and especially enjoyed, among other things, regularly playing Mahjong with them.

She cared deeply and gave generously of herself to those around her. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family and was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion, as well as being a good and caring friend to many. Her warmth, generosity and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on the people fortunate to know her. She will be forever remembered and loved.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dick; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Brendan Tagler of Naperville,IL; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Lauren Stulgis of Ithaca, NY; her grandchildren, Megan (Tagler) Milstead and her husband Thomas, Erin Tagler, Shannon Tagler, Tyler Stulgis and Thomas Stulgis; and two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Michael Milstead. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Powers, Peg (Ken) Ralph, Joan O'Meara, and Catherine (Joe) Gorman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
