Sr. Jacqueline Verville, CSC

Sister Jacqueline Verville, CSC Sister Jacqueline Verville, CSC (Sister Mary Colombe of Portugal) passed away on August 23, 2026 at Holy Cross Health Center in Manchester, NH. She was born in New Bedford, MA on August 10, 1936 to J. T. Henri and Colombe (Cote) Verville. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1955 and pronounced her final vows in 1962. 

A clear dedication to education marked Sister Jacqueline’s more than sixty years of teaching ministry as a Sister of Holy Cross. A Master’s degree in Reading Education followed by a Doctorate in Reading and Learning Disabilities bore much fruit in various schools in New England and at Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH. It is after retirement, however, that came her crowning achievement as an educator. Sister Jacqueline had been carrying a dream; retirement now offered her the time to pursue it. 

Persuasion, perseverance, and prayer led Sister Jacqueline to found, in 2010, the Holy Cross Family Learning Center on Manchester’s West Side. There, and for eight years, Sister Jacqueline administered a program for immigrants and refugees, a program both in person and online that taught a vulnerable population the language, civics, and culture of their new home. Numerous awards punctuated her time of service; and blessings continue to abound to this day upon its second administrator, and upon both learners and volunteer teachers alike. 

Sister Jacqueline is survived by her brother Robert, his wife Eileen and their five children, five grandchildren and one great grand child. She is also survived by her brother Arthur, his wife Carol and their daughter and two grandchildren. She leaves also her many companions in life and ministry, the Sisters of Holy Cross. 

A time of Remembrance and Prayer for Sister Jacqueline Verville is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on the same day. Both services will take place in the chapel of St. George Manor at 357 Island Pond Road in Manchester, NH.
