Roland S. Bernatchez

Apr 27, 1948 — Oct 6, 2026

Roland Sylvio Bernatchez, 78, of Manchester, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at his home on October 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Roland leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, friendship, family, and countless stories that will be shared for generations to come. He was deeply loved by so many and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Roland was the beloved husband of Kathleen Bernatchez, his wife of 58 years and his partner in life for 63 years. Together, they built a beautiful life. They truly were the love of each other's lives.

He leaves behind his children, Todd Bernatchez of Manchester, NH, and Tara Isabelle of Tilton, NH; grandchildren Mercedez Rita Bernatchez, Todd Michael Bernatchez, Grace Ryan Bernatchez, Jeffrey Roland Isabelle, Jeremy John-Paul Isabelle, and Gabrielle Kathleen Lin Isabelle, and the partners they shared their lives with, Shawna Atwell, Clarissa Macdonald, and Deanna Fogarty. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Harper Lynn, Kennedy, and Remington Roland.

Roland was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Rita Bernatchez, and his sister, Susie. He is survived by his sister Denise Gosling and brother Hank Bernatchez, along with many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were part of his life.

Roland proudly served in the United States Army. He graduated from Bishop Bradley High School, Class of 1966, and later attended meat-cutting school in Toledo, Ohio. He worked at Bi-Wise Market for 25 years, eventually becoming manager of the meat department, and later became President of North Country Video.

He was a longtime member of many Manchester clubs and organizations, including the Workmen's Club, Davignon Club, DAV, Mount Royal, MH Club, VFW, Halcyon Club, and Deerhead Club, among many others. He loved playing pool, won the state doubles championship, and was inducted into the Queen City Pool League Hall of Fame.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Roland passed his love of the outdoors down through his family. He shared countless hours in the woods with his grandson Jeremy. Those traditions will now continue through Jeremy and his son, Remington Roland.

Roland and Kathy were known for their open-door home. You never needed an invitation or a phone call. If you stopped by, you could expect a smile, a hug, laughter, stories, food, and most certainly an offer of a drink. Roland was also a legendary storyteller, turning everyday memories and adventures into stories that could keep everyone laughing and listening.

One of Roland and Kathy's greatest accomplishments was the beautiful log cabin they built together in Peacham, Vermont. It became their peaceful retreat—a little slice of heaven—and a place created for their family and future generations to enjoy.

In his final days, Roland was surrounded by the love of his family. His family is deeply grateful that he was able to remain at home, comfortable and surrounded by those who loved him, and that he passed peacefully in the home he cherished.

Rest peacefully, Daddy. Your stories will be told, your traditions will live on, and your memory will remain in the hearts of all who loved you. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
