Mary (Dakoulas) Koukos

Mary (Dakoulas) Koukos, age 100, died Friday August 21, 2026 in Manchester, NH, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Manchester, NH on July 1, 1926, she was the daughter of Arthur and Katherine (Perestiri) Dakoulas. She was educated in the local school system and graduated from Manchester High School Central, class of 1943, never having been absent a day from school. She then attended Hesser Business College.

Prior to retirement, she worked at Hanover Insurance for many years. Early in her career, she worked as a shoe model in Manchester's historic millyard manufacturing district. She generously volunteered her time in support of many local political campaigns and proudly served as an usher at the Palace Theater.

Mary loved to travel and along with her husband, cruised through the Panama Canal three times. She enjoyed visiting casinos and was a longtime member of the Derryfield Country Club, where she was proud to have scored a hole-in-one.

Always very active in her faith, she was a lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a member of both the Daughters of Penelope and the Anagennesis Ladies Society. She sang in the Cathedral’s choir and volunteered every year at Glendi. During World War II, she donated her time inspecting parachutes and hammocks for the soldiers, often leaving a personal note of encouragement.

She was predeceased by her husband, Costas “Gus” Koukos in 2010 as well as her siblings, Peter Dakoulas, Chris “Snaf” Dakoulas, James “Chilly” Dakoulas, Connie Lindh, Ethel George, and Theophania “Fannie” Lambrou as well as her godchild, Tony Lambrou.

Surviving family members include her sister, Georgia “Bessie” Nacos of Manchester; her godchildren, Constance “Kitty” Lindh George, John "Chickie" George, Debbie Lindh Boisvert, Nikki Lambrou Burdick, Catherine Dakoulas Cowette and Christina Battistelli Lucci; several nephews, nieces and cousins. She is also survived by her devoted nieces, Robbie Dakoulas Pellerin, Cindy Dakoulas Sheehan, Linda Dakoulas Johnson and her nephew, Peter Dakoulas, and his wife, Celeste Mathews Dakoulas, who were lovingly by her side throughout her final years and at the end of her life.

The family extends special thanks to the caregivers who gave her kindness, compassion, and love, bringing comfort and warmth to her final years.

SERVICES - A Visiting Hour will be held in St. George Cathedral on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 10:00am to 11:00am. Her Funeral Service will begin immediately following at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, NH. Arrangements are in the care of the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, NH.
