Emanuel J. “Manny” Malatras, 74, of Manchester, died October 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Manchester on January 29, 1952, he was the son of the late John E. and Stamatia (Kotekas) Malatras.
Manny attended Keene State College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education. He devoted 33 years to the Manchester School District, teaching fifth grade at Beech Street and Highland-Goffes Falls Schools.
Manny spent many years coaching his children in soccer and basketball. When he wasn’t coaching, he was their biggest fan, always on the sidelines and never missing a game throughout their high school and college years. After retirement, he embraced one of his most cherished roles: “Papou” to his two grandchildren. He cared for them daily before they started school, and the immense love he had for them was returned many times over. He delighted in joining their games, no matter what they dreamed up, and took special pride in making their favorite breakfasts.
A lifelong Patriots and Bruins fan, Manny found his greatest joy in raising his children alongside Kathy, the love of his life. During their 46 years of marriage, they frequently attended Manchester Monarchs games and enjoyed traveling together. Jenness Beach and Canada were among their favorite destinations.
Family members include his beloved wife, Kathleen “Kathy” (Beddia) Malatras of Manchester; their children, Christopher Malatras of Manchester and Cara Bak and her husband, Jameson, of Brookline, NH; his grandchildren, Cadence and Wolfie Bak; his sisters, Elizabeth Kitsis and her husband, George, of Manchester, and Elaine Nader of Florida; and his sister-in-law, Maureen Comey. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Thursday, October 22, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Manny’s memory to support the basketball program at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St., Manchester, NH 03104, or to Precious Blood Monastery, 700 Bridge St., Manchester, NH 03104.
